How do I serve food to a blind person?

Many people are very timid when approaching a blind person for the first time. But once you have struck up a “Hi, how are you?” You may want to offer help. Maybe this place has food! How do you serve or offer help for a blind person.

If you have a buffet line the blind person may prefer to go with you so they can tell you exactly what they want. Sometimes they will just want you to scout the food and then they will tell you what they want. This is something that will vary form person to person.

One key is to try and keep each food in its own area. This way they will be able to find each different food. Keep in mind that the meat is always served at 6 o’clock. Try not to use the middle of the plate unless it is a finger food or bread.

You can also serve foods with dip to a blind person. How? You will want to make sure that the food is always “pre”dipped. By that I mean that you place these items on the plate where the dip can be dribbled on the items. This will create less mess and help the blind person not to spill food on their clothes.

Below is a video on how to describe what is on the plate that you have prepared.
